Sun Protective Swimwear
It’s important to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun, particularly in the hot summer months.Excessive exposure to the sun can result in sunburn in the short term, and sun spots, wrinkles and even skin cancer in the long term. You may think that throwing a tee shirt on over your swimsuit is enough to protect your skin, but did you know that a white tee shirt offers only a UPF 5 protection? That level of UPF is wholly inadequate in protecting your skin.
Sun protective swimwear is a great choice to protect your skin. It guards your skin whether the swimwear is wet or dry. Sun protective swimwear is often made of Lycra because its dense construction offers excellent protection from the sun. Other similar materials that may be used are typically of tightly woven material so that they can block out the sun’s harmful radiation. Sun protective swimwear can offer an UPF rating of up to 50+ which is the highest possible rating. Sunscreen can wear off after 45 minutes and can wash off in the water, so sun protective swimwear is a great way to keep your skin safe. Of course, you should still apply sunscreen to any uncovered areas. Make sure that the sunscreen has an SPF of at least 30.
Sun protective swimwear isn’t just swimsuits. A rash guard is basically a swim tee shirt that has sun protection factor to keep your skin safe. Rash guards may be short or long sleeved. There are also board shorts and surf suits that cover a larger area of your body than a traditional swimsuit while incorporating an Excellent sun protection UPF rating of coverage. Hats and swim shoes also help to protect your skin.
Sun protective swimwear is just as important for adults as it is for children. We think of babies and children as having delicate skin, but for most adults, our skin has already suffered years of damage due to the sun. It’s important to take good care of it and protect it so we don’t develop problems a few years down the road.
Sun protective swimwear is not limited to swimwear. You can even purchase polo shirts, golf shirts, fishing vests, hats and pants to protect your skin during your favorite outdoor hobbies. If you wear sun protective swimwear and clothing, you can make the most of your time outdoors with no worries about going indoors to prevent sunburns.
